Leading with Integrity: A Commitment to Authenticity
"True Leadership stems from individuality that is honestly and sometimes imperfectly expressed...Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection."
- Sheryl Sandberg
Authenticity is one of the most essential qualities a leader should possess. Misleading statements and deflective tactics are the antitheses of authenticity. As the campaign season is upon us, authenticity is more important now than ever. We, as candidates, present our credentials, visions, and qualities to you so you can make a well-informed decision about who your next Region IV VP should be. I am committed to transparency in this process, ensuring you are fully informed and involved in the decision-making process.
Three years ago, I supported my opponent's campaign to be elected as your RVP based on the information I had at the time. Today, I feel differently about that decision. I would not be running to replace him if I believed he was the right choice for our union.
Unfortunately, my opponent has tried to mislead our membership by using the endorsement I gave him three years ago on his website, passing it off as something new. That’s just wrong. In my article, "Canary in a Coal Mine," I clearly stated:
"When I endorsed the incumbent three years ago, I believed a more harmonious relationship with the Agency was necessary for our Union's success. I was mistaken."
That is my authenticity. I recognized my change in position on him as an RVP and explained why. Instead of addressing my change of heart, he chose to obscure the truth in his campaign, hoping our members wouldn’t notice or ask questions.
This is not how I want our union to operate. If I make a mistake, I will own it, critique it, improve it, and move on. I am running for this union office to correct that error. My willingness to learn and grow from my mistakes should reassure you of my commitment to effective leadership. I will not ignore the obvious, and I will investigate the obscure.
I look forward to serving you as your next Region IV Vice President. Together, let's lead with integrity and transparency. I am committed to leading our union with these values, inspiring hope, and confidence in our collective future.
